This is obviously speculative. But what do you think of the case spelled out here for Canada joining the EU? The short of it is that if the EU creates a multi-tiered membership that has some countries in an inner fiscal union and others outside that bloc with trading membership closer to what exists today, that Canada might fit in that second tier. This scenario might be a stretch, but it’s an interesting thought exercise. A second-tier membership for Canada could ease the EU’s mineral shortages if the political will ever aligns on both sides.
