I managed to squeeze in a little side quest project before new year - restoration of a mid century coffee table. The top was worn, and the legs were flimsy so those horizontal bars have fallen out at some point. I thought it will be a quick one - sand the top, glue the legs and bars together, finish with wood oil. The first part was exciting - I finally got to use the paint stripper the right way! The lacquer layer was thick enough for it, and the dopamine from scrubbing it off when it turned into a paste was great 🀀 But it wasn't as quick as I expected, still took ~2 hours. The real challenge came with glueing. Turns out the legs were flimsy cause the original joints were broken in two places and very lazily replaced by screws (I didn't have the energy to think of anything better, so the screws had to stay πŸ˜”). And then when I tried to fit the bars firmly in their spots, they didn't want to fit!! After spending about an hour on this puzzle, I was ready to assemble the legs together and covered all the join points in glue. And when I thought I managed to do it the bars just fell right off, covering me in glue too!! Apparently they were only long enough to hold on if the angle of connection was just right. And since I also had to juggle the legs that connected with screws finding that angle was no small feat... At one point I thought it was hopeless. But by some miracle everything connected and stuck together perfectly πŸ₯Ή Moral of the story: sometimes small projects also bring the gift of new experience aplenty 😁
