Before channels were decentralized, WC experimented with a short-lived channel to discuss WWDC and maybe some sports event (I don’t remember). You could call it a “flash” channel. It was meh. But I think it was close to something good. When notable events happen, casts/threads are not the best for real-time discussion. These kinds of conversations are best unstructured and somewhat off the record. What works on Twitter is live spaces. What someone says in a space isn’t obvious from their feed. This can be emboldening. Also, the “I was there” feeling is rewarding and is an itch that isn’t scratched currently with WC. Does WC need spaces? No. What WC has is DCs. Can something be done with them? Flash DC groups where FOMO drives engagement? Presidential debates are around the corner, and I’d like a Temporary convo with others, without polluting my feed with lame political musings. The same is true with WWDCs and other unexpected events such as Altman’s past board dispute at OpenAI.
