I'm not quite sure why Dan would think it's the wrong decision. I mean, non-product types tend to spend far too much time on non-essentials. Isn't the goal to ship-ship-ship though? I can see the downsides of hiring the product types, one being clash of opinions and that would be a problem.

I’ve never been in a pre PMF startup where non-product people wasted time on non essential things. Good early stage employees usually are ruthless at prioritizing. If they’re not, the founders need to whip them into shape.
