Strong opinion, strongly held: If you're a pre-product market fit startup hiring product people, you're doing it wrong.

Product people have a time and place. Just not before PMF.

I'm not quite sure why Dan would think it's the wrong decision. I mean, non-product types tend to spend far too much time on non-essentials. Isn't the goal to ship-ship-ship though? 

I can see the downsides of hiring the product types, one being clash of opinions and that would be a problem.

before PMF, the founder(s) have to do this :)

Good early stage employees usually are ruthless at prioritizing. If they’re not, the founders need to whip them into shape.
