I think the “Farcaster is too nice” take stems from a confusion of thoughtfulness for niceness, and the clear dearth of both on the bird app.

Does anyone think FC is too nice? I asked a question about this recently and no one seems to feel that way. I wonder if it is possible to have a network of that scale that remains thoughtful and nice. What would be needed to achieve that?

As things grow, there's an increase in anonymity. I think with anonymity is when you have people thinking they can get away with whatever including rudeness so 🤷‍♀️

Facebook and Nextdoor both seem to have plenty of conflict while having a "real names" policy

Nextdoor has to be one of the best examples of an "on paper" good idea with good intentions gone horribly, horribly wrong. I checked it out years ago and it was like opening a portal into another dimension where all your neighbors are their evil alter-egos. Completely unhinged. Insta-delete.

Eh even though it's "real names" how often do you see these people IRL? I feel there is such a level of a computer will protect me. It's like once you start driving a car, drivers are no longer humanized (road rage, etc.) I think there is a element of I might meet this person IRL and hang with then at an event on here
