For the Mavs, the trade is about looking at a future dominated by Wemby and saying, "Luka, as good as he is, ain't it."

100%. I think that moment of realization happened around the league with how Wemby took on Giannis the other night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbmSBHY5cGU

"It's my league, Giannis. You just work here." I do wonder how many teams Dallas reached out to to find a player commensurate with Luka's ability/age. Minnesota? Surely Ant is untouchable. Thunder? Not even picking up the phone. Boston? Ditto Detroit? Maybe Cade Cunningham would be available, but I doubt it. Orlando? Maybe Banchero is available. Phoenix? Doubt they'd trade Book. It's as if Anthony Davis was the only bona fide second-tier superstar available.

I’m sure. Probably even Bam. And him not playing half the season already gave them more conviction

Wow, so ESPN is reporting that Harrison specifically targeted Pelinka (due to their past relationship) and this trade so that the whole thing could be kept quiet. And apparently teams were pissed that they didn't have an opportunity to bid. 🤣

Wow. Perfect alignment of circumstances. That last part was pivotal. Studying move by Harrison
