I honestly think thatā€™s fine lmao itā€™s the anti seed oil crew thatā€™s the fringe mob at this point Thereā€™s not a lot of outcome data to support the anti seed oil thesis and a lot to learn there Very gray I give credence to that position Shoplifting is good on the other handā€¦. Lmao

Thatā€™s not a bizarre position either!!! Whatā€™s bizarre is like for ex some subset of those ppl will say ā€œwomen vote more often for dems so we should strip them of their right to vote to elect more R or libertariansā€ ā€” thatā€™s ridiculous but is an opinion gaining ground. Trump derangement syndrome also bizarre where these ppl act like Trump is Satan incarnate

politicization of people with radical ideas predates computers tho lol like...in the 50s a huge swath of Americans believed McCarthyism it's not the tech, people are generally dumb about complex issues, it's not a sexy conclusion, but it's the reality

It is the tech You cannot claim the impact of social is nonzero. Any major shift in media brings societal changes and we are still figuring out what socialā€™s will be, are. The printing press is responsible for the Reformation McCarthy was a proto social media influencer who weaponized the media https://www.thecrimson.com/article/1982/1/11/the-press-and-joe-pbjboseph-mccarthy-americas/ Now people can go direct no gatekeepers and create millions of fake crises Trump Derangement Syndrome is a terrible example and idk why I am trying to fit it into this paradigm when that has been parroted by tv just as much as social. All the examples you gave are bad because they donā€™t reflect the extremes *enough*. You didnā€™t engage with my one perhaps most exemplary example which is stripping women of the right to vote. That is more of what I am talking about here with extremes and vocal *minorities* taking up all the air

I actually haven't run into anyone taking up air with a "women should be stripped of the right to vote argument" I am either slipping in my ultra-online awareness or it's not quite as big of a talking point as others make it out to be

Iā€™m not saying all of these things leak out online, but it helps push the Overton Window wide open on what is and isnā€™t acceptable And it turns the terminally online into people who cannot function in the real world. See this young woman who spoke at a city council meeting as it is custom to speak online - using threats ā€” and got booked with charges. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/nri/us-canada-news/well-murder-you-indian-origin-protester-threatens-bakersfield-city-council-members-during-meeting/amp_articleshow/109268148.cms
