the payment use case is extremely overhyped in crypto most consumers prefer centralized payment options and the benefits of centralization (fraud protection, security, etc) will probably always outweigh anything decentralized options bring to the table we have to find use cases where decentralization is actually an advantage

I agree, but what crypto does is gives new players the chance to bundle services like fraud protection, chargebacks, etc into payments. Otherwise you would be stuck using the incumbents Ie. it's not about decentralization, it's about unbundling

wait why does the unbundling help the consumer? have you ever heard your mom mad that their fraud protection and chargebacks are done under the same umbrella?
