It seems like every day that I see a campaign for a new game Very, very few of these games stand out I’m also acutely aware of just how massive their promises are, relative to the size of the development teams I believe Web3 games will first win through fun, addictive game loops - not perfect graphics and ‘AAA’ style games.

I've been in crypto for 8 years and am passionate about advancing the industry. Great to see initiatives like @brian_armstrong 's ‘Stand with Crypto’ advocating for crypto in the US government, regardless of political views. Over 1.3M have signed up so far! At Unagi and Persona, it's crucial to consider the broader environment we're building in and how we can improve it for everyone.

I’ve been thinking more about different niches in Web3 gaming I can’t think of an RPG that I’ve played and enjoyed that has had true character and world building I can think of trading games, some racing games, and shooters But no RPG with rich lore… Should we change that?

Over the weekend we saw a LOT of liquidations In 24 hours, 81,838 crypto traders were liquidated, and the majority were long This is a trickle down effect, with stocks falling in the face of possible recession So, if NFTs have a bumpy few weeks - we know why

Bracket number 1 are typical Web3 games that might feel a little tiresome, but you play anyway in order to generate tokens. These games can be addictive, but often rely on the monetary aspect. Bracket number 2 are equally typical Web3 games - often shooters that use generic assets. Some are great, some are less so. However, few scream ‘fun’ to me in the way that great games of the past have done. There’s little magic, little to make you wish you could truly be IN the world. That’s what I see as fun. It’s not just being an addictive shooter; not just making you money; there’s got to be something child-like, nostalgic, beautiful about it. To make a game fun, we could (theoretically 👀) - build out a narrative that reveals more about Timefall Valley - integrate your Persona into that narrative - let you explore the world and feel part of it Then, you’d actively enjoy your time playing.

This game wouldn’t have to be a huge, 3D imagining - it would just need to be a portal into a new world. You’d want to play more. Discover more. You’d feel an affiliation with your Persona as you explored the world. Let’s just say, this is something I’m thinking a lot about at the moment… ⚡️

I’ve written about simplicity before. But I haven’t directly addressed the idea of ‘fun’ in gaming. Here are my thoughts on why our next game has to be fun, what could make it fun, and why that’s different to most of Web3 👇 I believe that a significant number of Web3 games fall into two brackets: 1) earning-oriented 2) replicas

EA has previously said that blockchain games are the ‘future of the gaming industry.’ Yet a lot of traditional gamers don’t want to embrace Web3… Why? Let’s debate 👇

Looking at the top 5 blockchain games ranked by DAU, I noted that: • Only one is a shooter or RPG (Alien Worlds) • All of the remainder are some mixture of turn-based strategy or card-based games However, that doesn’t mean we’re just focused on trading card games at Unagi 👀

We’ve focused a lot on NFT profiles as we work on Persona. But it’s also worth thinking about some Web3 gaming creators 👀 Recently, I’ve really enjoyed all of @Attis_gaming, @nicky_tengku, and @StefanSavevski… Who else should I have my eyes on?

Persona isn’t dogmatic. We’re not stuck in our ways. We don’t stick if it would be better to twist. Let’s just say we have some very, very big news coming 👀

A few huge BTC milestones we’ve probably already forgotten from this year: • ETFs were approved on January 10th • There are now 11 ETFs • New ATH of $73,794 on March 14th • Ordinals dominated discourse from late Q1 into Q2 • Runes launched in April and drove meme coin frenzy •Halving happened on April 19th It’s always worth remembering just how much happens in this space in a short period of time!
