I think “agency maxing” is a resonant topic especially when you consider we have high tech sector unemployment. But — this unemployment has been ongoing for months, and despite the persistence of the meme there really hasn’t been a ton of breakthrough projects, any more than when we had full tech employment (or so it feels) Watching this has actually pushed me towards a type of traditionalism. Despite the popularity of the “you can just do things meme” and market incentives subconsciously pushing towards initiative — most people don’t take it. It suggests a need to me for a structures people can rely on beyond the mere market (Full disclosure: weakly held opinion)

Early in my career, a company I was interning at was helping me find me next job. During this time I got attention from a startup accelerator and the company encouraged me to go all in on that instead of finding a job. I really wasn’t ready or well positioned to be a founder, and I am still recovering from that mistake.

yep so many of the 'you can just do things' ppl are either rich or have another way of not meaningfully participating in the default world jr swe's are somewhat fucked right now and they aren't going to be able to agency their way into jobs
