A friend of mine called it “smutty” and I had to admit they weren’t wrong, but it’s still a great read

No way. This isn’t smutty compared to most modern stuff, you think? I say that mostly because I really can’t tolerate smut. I mean, how? There is no one to have that plot with…Ayla doesn’t even have a love interest in this book….

Maybe smutty is the wrong term. It's certainly not 50 shades... Anyways, I love the few encounters I've had with this genre of pre-historic fiction. I feel confident recommending that you check out 1981's Quest for Fire: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082484/
