We seem to be past the point of the lesson learned in that heuristic and now I’m just curious about who exactly this “somebody” will be that will come in after Trump term over

TBF, Americans usually figure shit out when our backs are up against the wall

But past performance... yada yada

I don’t think most Americans believe in American values nor shared American identity and so I would be reluctant to read too much into history here 

It’s decidedly zero sum out there, we are not all in this together

I would agree — but we don’t agree on the threats, thereby subverting unity

I think that’s generally been the case?

Absent problems, we’re fiercely individualistic 

But with an existential threat, we find common ground to solve the problem… at least that’s the hope?
