I agreed with him at the time of posting and just got triggered all over again by something I saw so I want to vent in this QT Redditors are good people that make me, a known cheap ass, look positively wasteful. They will pinch a penny beyond all logic. It often results in warped recommendations

I used to feel guilty being annoyed by this because I felt like it made me a snob or disrespectful of those with less. Your post snapped me out of it and I have thought about it so much it’s so TRUE

it’s truly an unhinged group of people in terms of their relationship to money obviously I don’t begrudge anyone for not being able to afford something, but there is a certain arrogance to the way redditors go out of their way to dismiss more expensive products in favour of amazon/temu slop simply because they are unable or unwilling to buy the more expensive thing. it results in a really twisted world view in which everyone that buys something nice is a fool because you can get this cheaper thing that’s “just as good” even though it’s not. this way of looking at the world has the same appeal as conspiracy theories because it positions you as The One who knows better than everyone else. once you recontextualize most Reddit reccos as being similar to political opinions from someone who uses the phrase “sheeple,” you’ll understand pretty quickly that they’re borderline useless beyond a jumping off point to form your own conclusions.
