A bad faith reading of the argument is essentially “we need to import infinity Indians because they are more “American” than you, native born citizen with your garbage prom queen worship and lazy sleepovers”. What is that supposed to make one feel about Indians in return? 

Immigrants at Ellis Island were so happy to be here they literally changed their names. Here, Vivek is saying they deserve where we have roots because he’s a nerd and we are worthless jocks.

I was raised like Vivek describes too. Forced into classes, extracurriculars, held to a high academic standard and prohibited from a TON of media.  I don’t view those who were raised differently as lesser, and also see the drawbacks of such a strict approach. It made me weird and unrelatable and tomboyish. I had to unwind my upbringing to some degree. 

There is more to life than infinity GDP growth and “progress” and I am willing to say that inviolate of my interests on the face 

Because of my cancer risk my life arguably depends on progress. I need breakthroughs to ensure my continued life expectancy. And yet what kind of a life will it really be, if I am consigned to live it in an amoral, iq worshipping, resentment of the jocks formed culture. Not worth it if you ask me

i’m a product of my parents. they were not “participation trophy” parents, they didn’t care about what was “popular” or “cool”. all they wanted was for me to always do my best work and be my best self. nothing vivek says makes me question that, but it does make me question the world around me.
