Glad that one wasn't but I totally believe you.
Personally, I had a ton of success "building in public" here on Farcaster (one user even sniped the .xyz domain for my vercel project and sent it to me), but I do it judiciously. Closed-source but lots of sharing, casting, etc.
When Moxie first launched and I was building on it, I was writing thread after thread of my dev work. Strategically, this was good for 1) keeping me accountable, 2) getting early users + community involvement, and 3) disincentivizing competitors because if they wanted to compete they'd have to keep up with my pace and enthusiasm.
The web app I developed during this time is still the largest community project, but I took a different approach to frames than most.
After I saw that Moxie frames were going to get commoditized, I wrote a generic one with an ugly UI and open-sourced it, which was just my way of waving the white flag and helping out newbie devs.
Thankfully no exploits (that I'm aware of). 1 reply
