I love vibe coding. I always knew the theory but was slow in practice. AI accelerates me so much. It lets me do things I didn't think I could do.

The downside is I'm getting horrifically nerdsniped into making random toys instead of advancing stuff that furthers my longer term goals

The secret is no one knows what they're doing, they just have confidence it might work out to be long term sustainable. And you can only measure success one day at a time, anyways.

Doesn’t that mean you haven’t run out of ideas? And while building those 'toys' you’ll probably stumble on something you should really be focusing on.

A lot of great writers have pages and pages of stuff never released. A lot of great artists have more painting unreleased then released. I think as a technologist its maybe good even to have lots of little things you never release. It all helps the craft even if it doesn't feel like it at the time.
