Even if the person upon whom you're financially reliant is committed to you, if they die before you, you've not developed the necessary skills (paying bills, managing budgets, et cetera) that financial independence helps you learn - so, even if things go "well", there's still risk. A good relationship helps the other person know how to live without the other, in my opinion.
