JD Vance is not a stupid Vice President, he just pretends to be one to the detriment of the entire country. No one seriously believes the US could not *easily* get back anyone we sent to El Salvador, regardless of any gang ties (which are completely absent in this case) or nationality.

FWIW the admin is making under oath declarations that he's still alive every day, but obv there's no reason to take them at even their under oath word. I do think even Bukele is smart enough to know that it's in his best interest that none of these people die in the short term, so I think the admin is fighting so hard just out of sheer self-interest in saving face, knowing that if one comes back, it opens the door to more and exposing just how big of a fuckup this whole operation was, and how horrible the conditions at CECOT are.

I don’t assume under oath means anything I guess And I do believe if they could bring him back they would — I don’t really buy it’s to hide anything about the conditions. It’s pretty out in the open what that place is

This admin's brazen defiance of the courts definitely makes me discount their under oath testimony but generally the consequences of getting caught lying under oath are enough that it's much more trustworthy than public statements.
