She’s an adult and she can make her own choices Where I raise an eyebrow is the part where it seems like her husband is stopping her from doing that, namely the part where she had to hide her epidural from him

I usually appreciate your critical and interesting takes but I feel like this misses the mark? Sure adults have agency but we don’t live in a vacuum. Especially in regards to women and their bodies and society + the patriarchies obvious and insidious power over them. I think there is a lot more nuance here and space for empathy.

I hear you, I don’t think she wants us to feel bad for her. Interestingly she seemed to be convincing herself that she has agency and they both made sacrifices, but the interviewer was like holding up the mirror to the reality of the situation which seemed far from that. But I also get not wanting to make women “victims” of their situation. It’s a delicate balance.
