You update the website and realize that you need to take a week twice a year to update the website or it'll be badly outdated and that while it doesn't require coding skill to put a basic website together these days it does take design skills to not look sloppy and unprofessional

If you don't do this work the school directly and immediately suffers. It's very concrete. There's a strain of thought on here that any marketing or design or website updating or CRM job is fake, and - I don't think it's an attitude that can survive starting a business.

It is essential work to a business yes but not worth the salary knowledge workers command today. I say this against my own interests

I don't obviously know but I've followed her for ~long enough to take her at her word that if the work doesn't get done there's ~"direct and immediate suffering [of the business]"

personally, i think this reflects most of my experiences in startups relatively well so I'm biased
