Crypto VC says it's bad for people to exercise because he's mad there are no explicit losers. Wants to bring gatekeeping back to sports "there are some things that should be reserved for those who compete. Whether it’s status, elite apparel, media, or the corners of the internet where serious amateur athletes congregate, we need spaces and signifiers that celebrate the legitimacy of athletic competition without apology." jaydrainjr.substack.com/p/make-adult... Bro just buy your Tracksmith, flex getting into Boston and go. Exercisers are still the VAST MINORITY and you already feel so threatened by the hobbyists you dumped 500 words out about how they should be excluded from stuff?

Totally expected to dislike this based on your review but then realized this guy is irked by the same people that irk me — just for slightly different reasons. My primary target are the cycling unitard people who leave their helmets on while they click clack around coffee shops and breweries.

Where do you live that you see a lot of those?! No doxx of course I actually think it’s cool ….. how neat to be somewhere that has so many bikers even if they do get annoying I might be more inclined to support an anti consumerism angle to this, truthfully. Like you don’t need $$$$$$ gear to be an athlete

Vancouver. Home of Lululemon. And that’s my primary frustration: people are $5k+ in with a carbon fiber frame, yet they are in mediocre shape and just started riding recently. But, really, I shouldn’t be yucking folks’ yums.

I sort of am torn. I think what irritates me is the idea of purity tests. Like I would rather consumerism go away, rather than adding an additional layer of status jockeying on top of a thing not enough ppl do to begin with

Yeah. Far from me to gate keep. I like your anti-consumerism angle. You want to run? Just run! If you keep at it after a few weeks, get a running shirt. I exercise every day with only an $8 stretching band. Probably 90% as effective as a gym membership, but goes everywhere I do.
