What do you guys think? Do you worry about this kind of data sharing, or ByteDance in general? https://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/news/2025-02-17/business/industry/DeepSeek-sent-user-data-to-ByteDance-Korean-probe-finds/2243893

Tbh the only data I think about protecting is personal biological data…if that is even possible Perhaps too negative of a take but I feel like data protection in all other areas is too far gone. There has been so much undermining of personal rights and too many cases where you find out later on that your data was not in fact safe. It seems like most tech nowadays is built around how to mine your data first and product second and I’m near giving up. I don’t have the time to keep up with the latest breech/corruption or fight against teams at billion dollar corporations whose only job is to get my data.

I am not a fan of the ByteDance aspect, much of the reason why I won’t use Trae AI for an IDE. But I play around with DeepSeek a bit.

The Deepseek Android app is shady as fuck: https://michael.bacarella.com/2025/02/07/static-analysis-of-the-deepseek-android-app/ There is no justifiable excuse for the majority of the issues here and combined they can be pivoted into depositing exploits and then data exfiltration.
