yep, exactly. I’ve had this argument with a lot of non-tech folks. pretty common perception. also have realized that most people don’t know that their other apps like YT or whatever use data centers. obvious training is different than simply storing/serving videos but c’mon.

Simon Clark did an awesome video on this on YouTube. It was super interesting. Essentially it's not much of our individual electricity use... but companies putting AI into everything lifts all energy use - it all adds up. Of course, this is offset by renewables... but that is also offset by using renewables for AI instead of decarbonizing other uses. It's all nuanced.
