There is a plastic “island” in the Pacific Ocean that’s estimated to be 3x the size of France. Size estimates are iffy because it’s not really an island, more like a giant dispersed cluster comprised of bits and chunks, and can’t be seen on satellite https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage_Patch Here’s some of it

Petition to have a day where you only bring us positive news on the feed… This one is rough. Took a load of recycling and a few trash bags to the dump yesterday and I was reminded of one of our school field trips in 8th ?? Grade was to the landfill to see how they processed the trash. Felt pretty strongly then that when possible all humans should visit dump and waste water treatment facilities (a different field trip) to gain a better sense of the “away”

There is nothing Americans can do to slow this down. - Go to google maps, seriously, right now. Start a timer, and blindly pick any street view in india (ANYWHERE) you will find nothing but trash and trash and trash which filters through their streams and into our oceans. USA is the least of the problem. Its insanity how much trash is deposited into the ocean of asia /south east asia.

This is one of those things I'm actually really optimistic we'll be able to solve with deliberate effort over time.
