911 operators are getting a raise. This will definitely help with the shortages. 

Hopefully they can become fully staffed and get the wait times down. 

At one point wait times were over 20 minutes.

There is adversarial relationship between leadership/DA and cops too. It truly is a job no one wants 

It goes beyond budget. The city is led by abolish the police types that are happy to have homeless camps, bike chop shops, and let whomever run feral ☹️ 

Coming from NYC especially it’s a shock how infrequently I see any cop here

This is one of the things that Austin gets really wrong.

I've needed the police twice in 9 years and we're now 0/2.

The population has grown, but the number of officers has been flat (and the city council is so erratic about the budget that nobody with options decides to become a cop).
