I am fine with slightly thicker phone if the regulation could indeed reduce electronic waste. But there is no logical reason it is the case. They could have just mandate manufacturers to service batteries for free for 6 years which incentives easier repair and better battery tech, without crippling the design.

Am I the only one who don’t like the EU replaceable batteries regulations? The phone will soon be made worse for zero environmental benefits.

Tbh, I don’t know. I’m now questioning whether decentralized social network (and the idea of digital town square) actually works. I still think FC has very friendly users but the community is too narrowly focused. On the other hands, Bluesky users always like the knives are out which isn’t fun.

Yes, I think it is why. Not blaming them, but it makes them difficult to cater as closed beta users where the app is work in progress and the team is small.

I think a major miscalculation of Bluesky team is not shipping federation earlier before the mass onboarding. The strategy allowed them to get a bunch of users during Twitter exodus but they are paying it now.

I am wondering if Bluesky team has any regret in focusing their initial crowd in BOC activists. The team is now constantly under uproar and backlash. Apparently it greatly affect their productivity and roadmap.

You may say Elon is inconsistent or lying, but even when Elon use the word it is not code. This kind of rhetoric is inherently dangerous because when you label a word is code or dogwhistle, you can claim anyone says anything because one can hear the hidden message not in the literal contents.

Sure. My cat slept on my right hand all the time and forced me to use left hand for keyboard and mouse.

Just to make sure, I was trying to be sarcastic. I am from Hong Kong where “free speech is coded” is what a luxury. Merely discussing the lack of freedom of speech in Hong along could get you in jail.

Yea, “free speech” is coded. It is what my government told me too.

I subscribed to the cat feed and enjoyed it a lot. The best social network experience.

Indeed they just shipped custom feed feature that implement a feed and share with users. It should be fairly easy to create a feed of users who are also Farcaster users.

Imo, I don’t think not having federation now is the issue. They indeed have the code almost ready but withholding it to ship T&S tools first. And some users have plainly expressed they don’t care about federation if it means they can’t deplatform the “Nazi”.

The Moderators’ Trilemma by Alan Rozenshtein: Running a platform with a large and diverse user base; Attempting to use a centralized, top-down content moderation policies; Avoid angering their users. These three goals can’t all be met.
