As a startup shipping multiple products as part of ongoing experiments, one thing I've realised is the need to take hard calls to shut something down. A product/ feature that once was your most cherished one but now has to go cause your vision / long term direction has evolved. Unpleasant but necessary truth.

We have PRDs where we mention success metrics & timeline - then track back to it. In terms of structuring at the on set, its about setting a metric & then thinking various hypothesis to drive this.
