I’m contemplating leaving a cushy W2 job to take a serious run at something I’ve been envisioning for a decade, and is now technologically possible. Convince me not to.

If you look for problems you’ll find problems. Our brains are designed to look for danger. Security, health/dental, stress, debt, long hours, kids might not get the best ‘stuff’, etc If you have young kids. This might be one of the last seasons in your life you will have the energy/will/runway to do a startup. consider validating with LOIs, prototype, confirming the ‘big problem’ you’re solving for

Thanks, I agree. My general philosophy to life is identify as many of the risks as possible, figure out which can be minimized or managed and which must be lived with - then either go all-in with eyes wide open, or don’t do it at all.

Stytch cofounders validated the problem space 2 way. 1. They were working in it and had intimate experience doing auth integrations 2. They spent months doing meetings with eng leaders prior to quitting to determine if they would commit eng hours to migrating
