I think it's true to an extent, though I disagree with the idea that it's specific to this borough. It's more like specific neighborhoods, and that extends to parts of Queens and most of Manhattan as well. I'd also argue it's not just New York -- LA and Boston are similar. I'm sure other cities also suffer from this trend -- Seattles comes to mind -- but these are the only three in which I've lived, and my whole family is in New York so that's what I know best. I'm curious what the OP means by "radicalizing." Yes, there's plenty of revolutionary LARPers here. Given how many of them have rich parents, I struggle to discern how many of them are radicalized by the sense of downward mobility or desperation they feel vs. how many are wearing their "luxury beliefs" the way rich snobs in Soho wear certain fashion brands. We live in Bay Ridge, where my wife grew up. There's definitely some spillover of yuppies who are getting priced out of Park Slope making their way down here. But it's mostly still normal people.
