A casino magnate and Trump megadonor's lawsuit to overturn the legal precedent that protects journalists reporting on public figures is getting the backing of a former coal baron who went to jail for conspiring to violate safety rules at a West Virginia mine that exploded in 2010 and killed 29 workers. In the lawsuit, they say the "once noble profession of journalism" has been overtaken by ideological zealots. The implication is that there was once a time when public figures such as themselves couldn't possibly have justified to themselves eliminating the media's right to write honestly about them. As if the coal and gambling moguls of the past didn't see themselves as victims of an aggressive watchdog press. Shame is a rare thing these days. https://x.com/davidenrich/status/1899090403401388066
