Harder to make this case when they’re bent on scrapping the IRA tax credits for EVs, which Elon has said on earnings calls that he believes will harm competition enough to maintain Tesla’s lead

If you told me in 2005 (or 2015) the left would be torching the leading American electric car brand I would have laughed at you.

Agreed but my point stands — one prominent EV manufacturer is meaningless from a climate perspective without the infrastructure and widespread adoption federal policy promised

Sure, but I find it funny that the company doing the most for electrification (supercharger network is important!) is vilified because of politics. For many, climate is about politics first, climate second.

Amen, you won’t get any argument from me there. Just look at nuclear, a topic I focus on a lot. The left wing environmental politics totally trumped the climate utility of atomic power stations. Utterly discrediting.

I’d also point to what red pilled me on climate — direct air capture. For daring to interpret the emissions data in a way that led me to write that I thought something like DAC was needed I got called an Exxon shill by the people who depicted themselves as the arbiters of climate policy. Not serious people. That, by the way, is what led me to nuclear, since the biggest argument against DAC was its energy use.
