Any tips for a beginner runner looking to run a marathon in a year? I’m not running at all currently and am wondering if building a base before I start marathon training is necessary.

Consistency is key. Run 3x times / week. Be very cautious about adding mileage. Your body is doing a ton of adjustments to turn itself into a runner so keep duration short enough you can stay consistent. Progression is frequency -> duration -> intensity (just the last month or two before your marathon)
