Focusing on something, means that implicitly you have to make millions of decisions to NOT focus on something. For the amount of care that you have to have in order to focus on something (at one moment at a time) - there is an even bigger amount of "un-care" that you have to have towards all the other paths not taken

These "un-cared" for paths, these futures you choose not to go down at any point, you have to make peace with these. There are so many possibilities, no wonder we have so many ideas of what can be, but there can be only one version of what you imagine at a time. It's mostly decisions on what not to do vs what to do

In a sense, the way is easy to say and hard to do. Prune paths, prune futures that are essentially sure dead ends. Then prune paths that may be dead ends, or at least easy to reverse. Prune paths that kill you instantly, prune paths that are tempting in the short run, but lead to ruin - or not, who knows - up to you

"you have to make peace with these" ↑ deeply love that sentiment @july! "Kill your babies" (as Dicky Attenboruough said to Robert Downey Jr. during the shooting of Chaplin). Yes yes! And yes even more, easy to say...HARD to do.
