4. The Gaelic Wars
5. The Meiji Restoration, subsequent reform of Tokugawa Shogunate into Meiji Era Modernized

One thing that’s sad about Meiji Restoration is that many of the revolutionaries and visionaries were the ones that were often killed / assassinated first - the survivors were the real power brokers, or just lucky

Very sad, I don't know the period that well, I studied it in college, but it always stood out to me as such an emblematic clash of tradition and modernity

The year is 1853 - Commodore Matthew Perry of the US Navy arrives into Edo Bay with the latest steamboat ships; Mississippi, Plymouth and Susquehanna. He threatens the Tokugawa Shogunate into opening its borders which has been closed for 250+ years.
