Ever since Riva Tez posted this presentation (iirc it was for Praxis) it’s been my header Once I’ve been to a traditional Japanese onsen the bottom sentence is going on my arm or hand Resonates greatly coming from a rural place I think, being in love with the US and tech for the opportunities was looked down upon

It's more and more accepted. Side side note - I remember a friend of mine bathing with several band-aids supposed to cover her tattoos that were actually floating around her... I feel that was gross enough to make onsen owners be more open-minded :)

As with many things in japan, a lot of gray area :) But generally I don’t want to inconvenience and make the onsen owners feel awkward and have to call people out. Yes, in order to preserve the peace by not having a tattoo instead
