This is beautiful. Great observation. The evolution of languages is one of my favorite things to study at like 3am.

If you ever get a chance, you should look into the origin of a standard deck of cards. As people of different cultures interacted with each other through trade, war, and conquest, they adopted traditions from one another, each adding their own little mutations over time. From culture to culture and generation to generation, these changes accumulated, with many of the details lost to history. The same can be said about the evolution of language (or musical genres as another example), as can be said about something as standard as a deck of playing cards.
