Because of this, regulators such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have begun to take action against some Web3.0 companies in an attempt to curb such abuses. But as things stand today, regulatory enforcement remains challenging.

In Web 3.0 markets, the function of market makers is to provide liquidity and market depth through continuous buy and sell orders to ensure smooth trading. However, some market makers take advantage of their position to engage in manipulative behaviors, particularly wash sales trading and fronting. Because of the large amount of asset liquidity at their disposal, these unscrupulous market makers can manipulate prices for their own benefit, thereby influencing price movements.
