I did swing for a bit and one of my teachers lamented about how all the styles converged and became less interesting post globalization era. It used to be eclectic and unique, they said.

Robin Hanson’s thesis on cultural drift talks quite a bit about this. You lose the way that different styles may have evolved in a less homogeneous world, and instead they drift from one global trend to another

Things like canva probably didn't help. Also somewhere read about the "death of the Avantgarde" or at least their lack of being what their name suggests. You'd think those should be the people pushing the boundaries or crossing them altogether. 🤷
