Mostly I'm of the opinion that there are far bigger fishes to fry for a small startup, but after 10 years of that I just find it an interesting area to get to know the theory. I had dinner with a head of brand design at Amazon and it's super interesting to hear the process they use to name new stuff.

this is such a great question. I think about naming and how it affects people and groups a lot. one related direction could be getting into semiotics? since a lot of what goes into a name is what it signifies and the imagery/symbols associated.
