I think one of the things people complained about out with signal is that you need to use a phone number vs a username.

I have a lot of friends who only use Signal.

I think you can use a username now with Signal: https://signal.org/blog/phone-number-privacy-usernames/

But seems like linking a phone number might still be required for signing up

Agree this is a bummer. At @comm.eth we don't require an email address or phone number to sign up, just username/password or ETH wallet

This looks cool! I wrote this end-to-end encrypted quick video sharing app once. It was funny because the groups couldn’t be too big since you had to encrypt the video to each recipient.
