I’ve been in client pitches where someone would say, “together we bring a cumulative one hundred years of experience” — sure bud, but none of you individually was in business even thirty years ago, so you all read from the same temporal playbook

They often use that as a pitch at the bank I work at: bankers with a cumulative 15+ years experience. Cringeworthy considering none of us often know what we are doing because shit changes so much

Agree that collective knowledge is not better. Disagree (maybe) that expertise is better than generality. I’m heavily influenced by the book Range here, but someone with 20 years of interdisciplinary experience can often solve problems that the 20-years expert cannot.
