Hard truth. While not really a gordita, Taco Bells normalizing a softshell stuck to a hard shell with melted cheese glue was one of the best things to ever come out of fast food. I do this all the time at home, although I prefer corn shells for both outer and inner layers.

I've never tried making that myself, but I bet pan-frying that shape it is way easier than frying chimichanga.

I’ve not tried yet either but a local spot makes their version “the Dank Wrap” (pictured below)It’s about as good as Taco Bell’s. The main thing I learned is these have to be eaten immediately or the crunchy part gets soggy.
