Dealing with nebulous concepts isn't helpful either. 

Journaling is a form of externalizing a concept allowing you to inspect it from multiple angles. 

It's the same way you externalize an engineering or other problem to effectively address it.

Agreed though... Focus should be on resolution, not just externalizing.
