It’s CRAZY to me that even the “nicer” furniture out there is just veneers on some cheaper solid wood core. Restoration Hardware has outlets full of this stuff because the 1/16” veneer is easy to damage leaving you with a big unrepairable piece. Real solid wood doesn’t do this!

Ah man when we first got married I really wanted to get a nice kitchen table, real wood made in the USA or Canada etc, even did some second shopping… quickly realized it wasn’t in our budget so we settled for a real wood table that was assembled in the US for much less. At the time it felt like a big compromise. It isn’t the nicest kitchen table, yet it’s done a fine job for 18 years, and has gotten beat up through use. Reckon we’ll upgrade it someday. We finally purchased a real nice bedroom set a few years back which should be with us til we die. So much of our lives are built around cheap goods for everyone… in an attempt to make life somewhat affordable.

Are there Amish builders up in your area? They did amazing work down in PA. Other than that antique stores & estate sales seem 10x better deals these days than buying new crap. I threw out a great antique dresser leaving RI that I miss so much. I didn’t realize how hard it would be to replace out in CA.

Not locally, yet that’s what we did for our bedroom, it was from an Amish group in OH/PA can’t recall and is really nice.
