I can't believe they didn't just propose crediting all or part of the interest back on loans. Anyone that has paid more in interest than their loan amount would effectively be forgiven, everyone else would have a much better chance at paying it off, and the MAGA crowd couldn't complain (as much) about "handouts."

My issue with the PPP comparison is that there was a previous agreement that the loans would be forgiven if you did X activities. Yes, there was massive fraud involved but it feels different than student loans to me. Rather, using tax payer dollars to build or subsidize a factory is similar.
