Heāll be the R nominee for as long as he wants to be. Heās completely captured, and even expanded, the R base of elite-haters. Every other R candidate is an elite almost by definition.

He had about 60% of the primary locked in in 2024. If he loses, I could see his primary base decline to about 40% leaving an opening for someone else.
