ITAP of Kaiwi as she galumphed up the beach at her favorite spot in Waikiki... while monk seals mostly frequent remote corners of our main Hawaiian islands, there are a few who don't seem to mind the crowds.

As a volunteer, we cannot get close because of their protected status… but one night, she shifted her position to be almost on top of one of the cones defining her seal resting area (SRA), and I was worried it would float away when the tide came in, so I was trying to remove it while she was sleeping… but apparently, she had one eye open and watching me.
