I have a suspicion that the introduction of the iPhone has led to a gradual mass-imbecilization of society

Agree – Iphone & Social media contribute to faster decline, BUT there were already declines trending back to 70's in SMRNL, problem solving, critical thought. I did a study for an IPTV network we were building in 2005 and covered SMRNL. our research showed declines were correlated to media programming, standardized testing, loss of "family values", parental structures around "play", and rise in dual-income all contributed to the decline of SMRNL. Top of head... • by mid 80s avg HH watch time for tv was 6 hours (reduced critical thinking 10%) • 81'-92' MTV and the switch from edu to entertainment • 92' report found that children 2-17 watched 24 hours tv weekly (correlated to declines in SRMNL) • 94' kids playing video games over 5 hours weekly, scored lower on MRS • By 96', most media programming was action and not narrative (reduced cognitive activities and a 10-15% drop in vocab) • 04' report on "unstructured play" (25% decrease in creativity and problem solving)
