I am bearish on the century as a unit of time. It’s too long to plan for or reason about. Hardly anyone lives a full century, although many people live a half century. A half century is also about the length of one adult working life, so it’s easier to grapple with. 50 years is a much better unit for long term planning and demarcation of time, but we don’t have a common word for it. Sometimes people call it a jubilee. That is a good word. It’s fun. Playful. Not too serious or heavy. A good question might be: what do you want to do during your jubilee? You’ll probably one get one. Or, instead of the 18th century (long, boring, too varied to be grouped together), you can say “what about the last jubilee is different from now?”
