Coaching update: we won our second game in a row last night and are now 2-2 on the season. Down 5 with 90 seconds to go we sent it to overtime and carried the momentum through to take care of business in the extra period. After playing hard for about 50% of the first two games we’ve gotten almost 100% effort for the last two, and that makes all the difference. In the last minute, while doing my best to help the team win the game, I remember thinking, win or loss, this was a great game for us. When you leave it all on the floor and fight until the end, the effort is more important than the result. You can only control the former. Now we have to get better at breaking thr full court press and converting fast break opportunities but we are playing hard as a team and everyone knows we can be better and is motivated to see how much better we can get. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to coach these kids, especially in a game like last nights, and I’m excited for our 5th game tomorrow.

a massive mental unlock for me in elementary school: coach told me it was ok to dribble backwards in the back court. opened up the game a lot for me in high school. might be helpful to your ball handlers to keep their poise.

Love it!!! My favorite sport. Get the most athletic non starters to do the press in practice. Make them hustle and commit like a good pressing team would. Your players can get used to breaking it with practice. Almost invite it because you learn to break it so well teams will have to fall back. My son had his first recreation basketball last night and it sounds like we might be joining a travel team. I share your excitement! 111 $DEGEN
